President Ranil Wickramasinghe said at a public rally held in Galle a few moments ago that he will contest for the next presidential election.
This is the first time it has been announced that the President will contest the next presidential election.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe was the first to deposit bail money to contest the presidential election as an independent candidate. However, various political opinions were presented regarding whether he would contest or not, and Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe said that he will contest the presidential election in response to all those ideologies.
Thousands of people have gathered for the public rally held at the Galle Municipal Council premises. Our reporter there mentioned that ministers from the United National Party, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna as well as many other parties are joining the ‘Ekwa Jayagamu’ public rally together with the President.
