The Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera says that the government has decided to double the allowance of pre-school teachers.
He said that last week, the government decided to increase the 2500 rupees monthly stipend to pre-school teachers to 5000 rupees.
The minister mentioned that there are about 34,000 pre-school teachers in this country.
The minister mentioned this in the discussion held with the representatives of pre-school teachers’ organization in Agunakolapalasse yesterday (09).
The minister said that the matter was discussed in the cabinet sub-committee meeting held last week.
He mentioned that President Ranil Wickramasinghe advised to increase the 2500 rupees allowance of pre-school teachers to 5000 rupees.
