The fifth Executive President Mahinda Rajapaksa has issued an announcement today (19) paying his respects to all the war heroes and citizens who contributed to the victory, saying that if there are people who say to forget the country, nation, religion and heroism and look forward to the future, beware of them today.
The announcement issued on the occasion of the 15th commemoration of Victory is as follows.
“The 15th celebration of defeating the separatist terrorism that has plagued Sri Lanka for more than three decades is on May 19, 2024.
The LTTE, which started very little in the seventies, had become the strongest terrorist organization in the world by the year 2008.
You must remember that when the LTTE was defeated, which introduced suicide bombers and child soldiers to the world, they were strong with small suicide boats, light aircraft that attack at night, and even arms delivery ships.
The LTTE, which killed thousands of political leaders and civilians, including two heads of state in Sri Lanka and India, rejected the peace path extended by me and started attacking, so we started the humanitarian operation to eradicate terrorism that day.
That humanitarian operation was completed by the war heroes of Sri Lanka by completely occupying the entire territory in the north and east, which the terrorists had divided as an Elam, on May 18, 2009 and confirming the death of LTTE terrorist leader Velupillai Prabhakaran on the morning of May 19.”
