    A machine that saves thousands of lives has been added to the Colombo National Hospital

    The state-of-the-art CT Scan (128-Slice CT Scan) machine established in the Neurosurgery Department of the Colombo National Hospital was added to the treatment services on 11th under the leadership of Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Secretary of the Ministry of Health.

    The Asian Development Bank has provided funding for this state-of-the-art CT scan machine worth 220 million rupees through the Health Sector Development Project.

    This 128-Slice CT Scan provides faster, safer and more accurate diagnosis, providing the diagnostic data needed to distinguish between tissues and facilitate disease determination.

    This state-of-the-art CT scanner offers a high level of diagnostic accuracy and efficiency while minimizing patient discomfort and radiation exposure.

    This CT scan machine is used to obtain the necessary reports to judge the condition of the patients before and after the surgery for patients who have suffered brain and spinal cord damage due to car accidents, assaults, falls, brain tumors, patients who need surgery for brain bleeding, patients with high blood pressure who need surgery to stop internal bleeding in the brain.

    The neurosurgery department of the National Hospital consists of 10 operating theaters, 10 intensive care units, and 02 Extreme care units.

    The intensive care unit has a capacity of over 200 beds and is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment as well as specially trained doctors, nurses and other staff.

    This is the largest and most important neurosurgery department established in a government hospital in Sri Lanka, and it is also equipped with helicopter landing facilities (Helipad).
