According to the University Grants Commission, permission has been given to recruit new lecturers for all universities.
Professor Sampath Amaratunga, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, stated that many lecturers have left the country and gone to foreign countries.
As a result, there are many vacancies in all universities, the chairman said.
The professor mentioned that the opportunity was given to recruit new professors after considering those facts.
Meanwhile, the Federation of University Teachers’ Unions stated that there were about 6200 lecturers in all universities.
The federation says that many of them left the country last year.
