The weather forecast for the sea areas around the island for the next 24 hours issued today (31) at 12.00 noon reads as follows.
Sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate.
Mainly fair weather will prevail sea areas around the island.
Winds will be variable and wind speed will be (15-25) kmph.
An increase of swell waves (about 2.5 – 3.0 m) can be expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places inWestern, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in North-western and Central provinces and in Mannar and Vavuniya districts in the evening or night.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
