President Ranil Wickramasinghe says that 2 bills for women will be presented to Parliament in May.
Addressing the national celebration of International Women’s Day today (08) in the morning, the President said that two bills for gender equality and women’s empowerment will be presented as follows.
He said that a separate commission is expected to be established according to the Act for Empowerment of Women and its aim is to make arrangements for the advancement and empowerment of women by introducing the mechanism to protect women’s rights subject to the provisions of the Constitution.
The President mentioned that the Women Empowerment Act was gazetted yesterday (07) and the Gender Equality Act will be gazetted in the coming week.
Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickramasinghe further said that gender-based budgeting will also be introduced in the future, and it will be done for the first time in Asia.
