The Mahaweli Authority says that the release of water to the Mahaweli region will start on March 20 for this year’s yala season.
Mahaweli Authority Water Management Unit Director Mr. Wimal Rathnasiri mentioned that water will be released for that purpose from March to July.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department says that there is enough water for the yala season.
Number of tanks under Irrigation Department is 258.
The director of water management also mentioned that there is more than 90% water capacity in those tanks.
