The proposal to register with the Inland Revenue Department and issue a ‘Taxpayer Identification Number -TIN’ number is planned to be submitted to the Cabinet next week.
The Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Ranjith Siambalapitiya, has announced that a cabinet paper will be prepared to propose using the same number for both the national identity card and the TIN number for individuals over the age of 18.
The minister says that the related proposal is being prepared and recommendations have been requested from 6 institutions.
The minister said that 4 institutions have given recommendations and recommendations from two more institutions are to be received.
After receiving those recommendations, the relevant proposal is to be issued to the cabinet.
I think that using National Identity card is the best solution and less hassle. Unless some institutions want to just make money out of this as well.
The ID card number is the best solution. So go ahead with this initiative.
