    The President Prorogued the Parliament

    Parliament will be prorogued with effect from midnight today (26).

    President Ranil Wickramasinghe has issued the relevant gazette announcement.

    According to the Gazette, the Parliament will meet again on February 07, 2024 at 10.30 am.

    A prorogation is a temporary suspension of Parliament.

    That period should not be extended for more than three months.

    In case of proroguing the Parliament, the Proclamation of proroguation shall give notice of the commencement of the new session of the Parliament. The relevant gazette issued by the President is shown below.
