The Chinese government has granted 80% of the fabric required for school uniforms for Sri Lankan students. The Ministry of Education has announced that the distribution of uniform cloth for students and pirivens will be completed before the 19th of next month.
This grant builds on the strong partnership between China and Sri Lanka, where 80% of the total school uniform fabric requirement is provided as a subsidy from the Chinese government. The initiative started last year with a 50% subsidy, which was later increased to 70%, showcasing the collaborative efforts to support education in Sri Lanka.
The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Xi Shang Hong, officially handed over the first batch of Chinese-donated school uniforms to the Minister of Education, Mr. Susil Premajayantha. The first batch, totaling 5.8 million meters of uniform fabric, has been received in Sri Lanka, and the second batch is expected to arrive by February 4.
