A significant landslide near post 7 on the Badulla-Bandarawela road has prompted authorities to temporarily suspend the opening of the road. The landslide poses a substantial risk, and officials have deemed it unsafe for regular traffic.
As a result, the road will not be accessible for commuters, and the closure is expected to persist until the risk is mitigated. Motorists are strongly advised to opt for alternative routes, including the Bandarawela road via Haliela-Atampitiya, Demodara-Wevelhinna road, or the Badulla road via Demodara Spring Valley.
Due to the precarious conditions at the landslide site, authorities caution against attempting to traverse the area on foot. The closure extends to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic near the landslide site.
However, the District Disaster Management Unit has implemented measures to facilitate traffic from the landslide site towards Bandarawala and Liyala, ensuring a level of accessibility for commuters during this period of road closure. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates on the reopening of the road as the risk is assessed and addressed.
