Licenses to the Private Sector to Import Keeri Samba

Steps have been taken to issue licenses to the private sector to import keeri samba.

Mr. Asiri Walisundara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation, said that this decision was taken because a lot of time would be spent on procurement if imported by the government.

With the increase in the price of rice, the import of keeri samba was recently approved by the cabinet.

Under that, the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation started procurement for the import of 50,000 metric tons of samba.

But the process is not over yet.

The Ministry of Trade stated that with the permission to import samba to the private sector, the stock will be received on the island soon.

The large-scale rice mafia in this country have been buying Paddy bundles of Keeri Samba rice at the price of ten thousand rupees or more, but they have failed to release the relevant Keeri Samba to the market.
