Another ship carrying 6 million eggs is scheduled to reach the island today from India.
Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation says that the stock of imported eggs will be distributed to Sathosa stores across the country by next Thursday.
Recently, the government decided to import eggs till next April due to the high price of eggs during the festive season.
Eggs have been imported from India on two occasions.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera had said that by the end of next year, a decrease in the price of eggs and chicken is expected.
In the meantime, due to the huge increase in the prices of essential commodities including vegetables, the consumers are in a lot of trouble.
