It has been decided to transfer the operations of Hambantota, Mattala International Airport to a joint Russian and Indian private company.
Mr. KDS Ruwanchandra, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports and Aviation, said that the discussions held yesterday (05) were successful.
Accordingly, an agreement will be entered into with that company in the future.
Under this, all the operations of the Mattala Airport will be carried out by the relevant company.
The secretary said that the company also plans to pay the salaries of the airport staff employed there.
He mentioned that the government will get a part of the income.
For the maintenance of Mattala International Airport, the government annually spends Rs. 2000 million will be spent and with the new program it will be possible to save that amount, said the Ministry of Ports and Aviation Services.
