“It is more effective to take the second dose 11 months after the first dose.” – Professor at Oxford University

Recent research has found that giving the second or third dose 45 weeks after the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine improves the body’s immune response.

It has also been found that giving the third dose after more than 6 months to the second dose can lead to a significant increase in antibodies.

It has also been shown to boost the immune response against SARS-CoV-2 virus strains.

Immunosuppression experts are constantly concerned as the gap between the first and second doses is widening due to the shortage of COVID-19 vaccine supplies and the limited availability of vaccines in some countries. Therefore, it is necessary to do research on it again and again.

After a 45-week delay between the first and second doses of the study participants of this research, the results showed that the antibody levels increased the immune response after the delayed second dose.

Sir Andrew Pollard, Professor of Pediatrics and Immunology, Oxford University’s chief researcher on vaccines, says this is comforting news for countries where vaccine shortages are in short supply. He emphasized that although the second dose was taken 10 months later than the first dose, the level of immunity was excellent.

The side effects of the vaccine were also found to be minimal. Theresa Lambe, an assistant professor working on the study, said after the second and third doses it is less likely to cause side effects than the first.
