The investigations of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) into the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute will proceed without the participation of COPE Chairman, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Member of Parliament Professor Ranjith Bandara. This decision was made during a party leaders’ meeting held today.
Recent COPE Committee sessions, particularly those involving Sri Lanka Cricket, witnessed criticism of the chairman’s actions. Members raised concerns about the chairman’s conduct, citing alleged attempts to control questioning and communication during the inquiry. Additionally, questions were raised about the chairman’s relationship with an affiliated project of the Cricket Institute.
This controversy led to a temporary halt in COPE committee meetings, with members expressing the need to address the chairman’s participation in the investigations. The party leaders’ meeting today concluded with the decision to exclude the chairman from the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute investigations, allowing the COPE Committee to resume its work on the matter without his involvement.
