    Retirement Privileges of a Former President are Removed

    Former Zambian President Edgar Lungu has been stripped of his retirement benefits and perks by the government of Zambia following his decision to return to active politics.

    Lungu announced his retirement from politics in 2021 after losing the presidential election. He was the president for six years and during that time he is accused of making Zambia the most indebted country in the African region.

    However, Lungu has announced that he has decided to return to politics and accordingly he has stated that he intends to contest again in the upcoming presidential election.

    The Zambian State Spokesperson has told the media that with Lungu has decided to return to politics, steps have taken to withdraw his retirement benefits and privileges.

    Here the State Spokesman has mentioned that it has been very clearly stated that if the former President enters politics again, his retirement privileges will be forfeited. Accordingly, he has further stated that steps have been taken to remove the former president’s retirement privileges.

    As a retired president, Lungu was privileged to have three bodyguards, a diplomatic passport, three state cars, a house, medical insurance and all expenses for his funeral.
