Ragama Police officers arrested a prisoner who escaped while being taken from Negombo prison to another prison in a bus at the time of the tsunami tragedy while he was in prison as a suspect for beating a person to death with sticks in Ragama.
This 54-year-old man was arrested by the police in Ragama city.
The murder took place in 2001 and the Ragama police had arrested two suspects. After this person escaped in 2004, the case was heard without him. After a long trial, the court acquitted the suspect who was in jail at that time and sentenced the escaped suspect to death.
The police say that they were able to arrest him yesterday based on information that this person was in Ragama city.
