The Mihinthale Police have started an investigation regarding a threat to demand Rs. 10,000,000 as a ransom from the Chief Incumbent of the Mihinthale Rajamaha Vihara, saying that a video clip will be published on social media.
Chief Incumbent of Mihinthale Rajamaha Vihara, Valahangunavewe Dhammarathana Thero, has also filed a complaint with the Mihintale Police.
According to the complaint, the police said that the video clip, which was used to threaten and ask him for ransom, has now been made public through a woman’s Facebook account.
He told the police that on the 1st of June, an unknown person spoke to him through a WhatsApp call and said that he had a video of him and demanded a ransom of Rs. 10,000,000 not to publish it.
The next day, Dhammarathana Thero told the police that the video was published on the Facebook account of a hotel owner in Anuradhapura, and later the businessman had removed it within a few hours.
But now that video has been made public on a Facebook account with the name of Piyumi Duleeka.
