    The President shows the importance of Asia to the world

    President Ranil Wickramasinghe says that Asia, home to 60% of the global population, is the world’s largest economy and makes a major contribution to global growth.

    President Ranil Wickremesinghe said this while addressing the Nikkei Forum on the Future of Asia held in Tokyo.

    He has shown how China’s recovery, India’s domestic demand and contributions from advanced economies such as Japan and South Korea are supporting the region’s continued growth.

    Pointing out democratic values and human rights, climate change and trade integration as three major challenges facing Asia, he emphasized the importance of respecting the different political systems and definitions of human rights in Asian countries.

    President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is currently on an official visit to Japan, held bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

    The President’s Media Division said that the President expressed his appreciation for the support Japan is providing to Sri Lanka to recover from the economic crisis.

    President Ranil Wickremesinghe met former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga in Japan. The President spoke about the country’s economic recovery and invited Japan to return to the country and invest.
