Last night, the police arrested 8 student activists including Wasantha Mudalige, the convener of the Inter-University Student Council, during the protest held by the University of Kelaniya University Students’ Union in front of the university.
They are going to be produced before the Mahara Magistrate Court today.
The police said that the group was arrested on the charges of assaulting and injuring police officers, obstructing their duty and riotous behaviour.
Two police officers who were injured in the unrest have been admitted to Kiribathgoda Hospital.
The suspects arrested by the officers of the Kiribathgoda Police Station have been submitted to the Ragama Police Station for further investigation.
