Medicine prices will be reduced from next week

The Minister of Health, Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella, says that it is expected to be able to reduce the price of medicines in Sri Lanka by 10-15% in the coming week.

The minister points out that measures will be taken to reduce the price of medicines in comparison to the decrease in the value of the dollar.

He also said that discussions have started with the Ministry of Finance and the Accounting Division of the Ministry of Health regarding the extent to which the price of medicines can be reduced.

The minister said this while addressing the media after the national ceremony held yesterday (17) at Mahinda Rajapaksa Auditorium in Polgolla on the occasion of International Nurses Day.

He emphasized that with the increase in the price of the dollar, the price of medicine has increased by a reasonable amount, and that the Ministry of Health always tries to give the people the advantage of the drop in the value of the dollar.

Pharmacies, where medicines are stored, must be air-conditioned.

The minister said that because of this, the drug vendors are pointing out that they will have to bear a very high electricity bill and emphasized that attention should also be paid to these matters when reducing the price of drugs.
