    The wild elephant in Diyaluma attacked again

    The Koslanda police say that the wild elephant that attacked a young couple who were pitching their tents at the top of Diyaluma Falls yesterday morning also attacked a father and son couple.

    The attack took place at around 6.00 am yesterday.

    A 42-year-old father named Janaka Padmabandhu and his 10-year-old child named Dulshan Induwara, a resident of Mawela Madugastalawa area, were attacked by this elephant. The police say that the two have been admitted to Wellawaya Hospital.

    It has been found that this wild elephant has come from Poonagala Reserve. The wild life officers together with the police and the villagers drove the wild elephant back to Poonagala Reserve yesterday.

    A 23-year-old girl named Kaweesha Iwjith, who was undergoing nursing training, died in the initial attack by this wild elephant. She was a resident of Matara Kekanadura Silvery Crescent. When this accident happened, she was undergoing nursing training at Kurunegala Yantampalawa Nursing Training Center. She was attacked by the elephant when she came to Upper Diyaluma area of Poonagala with her boyfriend, Madhushan Kakaluarachachi and pitched tents the night before and stayed there.

    It is said that this couple, which is a couple that loves the environment, has made travelling around the country their hobby. When Kaweesha died in the wild elephant attack, Madhushan was trampled by the wild elephant and is still in a serious condition receiving treatment in the hospital.
