    Rain continues – Risks of landslides

    Further landslide warning notices have been issued for 03 districts.

    The National Building Research Organization says that landslide warning notices have been issued for several areas in Kegalle, Badulla and Matara districts.

    Landslide notices have been issued for Haldumulla and Passara Divisional Secretariat Areas in Badulla District, Kegalle Divisional Secretariat Area in Kegalle District and Kotopola and Pasgoda Divisional Secretariat Areas in Matara District.

    The risk notification is valid until 4 pm today (03).

    Meanwhile, the meteorological department says that the current rain situation over the island can be expected in the next few days.

    Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island after 1.00pm.

    Showers may occur in coastal areas of Western and Southern provinces and in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Puttalam districts during the morning too.

    Fairly heavy showers of about 100 mm are likely at some places in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa district. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places elsewhere over the island.

    General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
