    There is no shortage of life-saving drugs

    Mr. Saman Ratnayake, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health said that there is currently a shortage of 119 types of essential medicines in the warehouses of the Ministry of Health’s medical supplies department, but this is a good situation compared to the shortage of medicines that existed in the past months.

    Mr. Saman Ratnayake said at a news conference held today at the Ministry of Health that 383 types of drugs are used in hospitals, and 25 types of drugs are currently in short supply.

    Mr. Ratnayake said that 1347 types of medicine are used in all hospitals nationwide, and 14 types of medicine are life-saving drugs.

    Mr. Saman Ratnayake said that an amount of Rs. 1.15 billion has been allocated for the import of medicines this year.
