    The people as well as the government are in trouble if the duties assigned to the officials are not done properly – PM

    Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says that the people as well as the government will be inconvenienced due to the low performance of the functions assigned to each institution.

    He has stated this at a discussion held at Temple Trees yesterday (18) as the Minister of Urban Development and Housing on providing solutions to the problems caused by the floods in the Colombo and Gampaha districts.

    The Prime Minister has instructed officials to expedite the completion of development projects that have been halted and to reach a joint decision with local government bodies, people’s representatives and government officials to alleviate the problems faced by the people due to the floods.

    The Prime Minister also said that the necessary allocations will be made for the projects that need to be addressed expeditiously to the people, subjecting to due process.

    He also focused on development projects related to Pethiyagoda, Ambatale, Oliyamulla water pumping stations, cleaning and development of storm drains, disposal of water by new pumping stations as well as resettlement of people in low lying areas to prevent from flooding.

    Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa pointed out that the officials have a responsibility to implement the decisions taken collectively and stressed that the relevant projects should be implemented expeditiously till the final stage.

    It has also been instructed to take necessary steps to utilize the newly recruited staff of the Multipurpose Development Task Force for development activities in the country.

    He stated that the passenger boat service which was started with its focus on the city of Colombo should be regularized through a proper regulatory system.
