A police constable working in the Trincomalee sub-unit attached to the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) was arrested yesterday by a team of officers from the TID Headquarters.
It was after an investigation into information received regarding a threat he made to a person and taking Rs. 10,000 by force.
TID has received a petition regarding a certain person that he is a terrorist. Trincomalee sub-unit officials have been informed to look into the matter.
A constable working in the sub-unit intimidated and threatened the concerned person and took a bribe of Rs. 10,000. According to information received by the TID, a senior police officer said that the suspected constable was arrested after an investigation by their Intelligence Division. At the same time, the police have taken steps to suspend the service of the suspect constable.
After producing the suspect in the Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court, he has been ordered to be remanded until the 24th.
