It has been decided to import 10,000 train rails from China.
The Ministry of Transport mentioned that these rails are being imported under the loan assistance of the Asian Development Bank.
The train rails stock will be received in this country at the end of next month.
Meanwhile, the railway department said many spare parts, including nails needed for railway maintenance, have been imported to the island.
The railway department also says that the railways will be renovated after receiving the stock of tracks and spare parts.
Due to dilapidated roads, the speed of trains has been reduced in many places, and this has severely affected the running of trains on the Coastal route.
Due to this, the railway department had recently taken steps to reduce the train speed from Colombo Fort to Panadura to 30 km per hour.
