A candidate who joined the National People’s Force protest held in Colombo yesterday (26) and was going to compete in the local government election has lost his life.
He was hospitalized and receiving treatment due to injuries sustained during yesterday’s protest and today he died while receiving treatment in the hospital.
The deceased is 61-year-old Nivithigala, Noragalla proportional list candidate Nimal Amarasiri alias ‘C.C. Mahaththaya’.
The National People’s Liberation Army said he was also treated in the intensive care unit for his injuries.
Yesterday, the National People’s Power protest was held, forcing the government to hold local elections.
