Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, has condemned the use of tear gas and water cannons by the police at yesterday’s protest by the National People’s Power against the postponement of the election.
“No leader or party has been right all the time. Therefore, dissenting voices should be tolerated in a democracy. Today, the government fired tear gas at the National People’s Power (NPP) protesters. Many were seriously injured. The government’s message to the people is clear. Shut up and sit down.” Sajith Premadasa, leader of the opposition and leader of Samagi Jana Balawega, said this in a note yesterday.
