Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha says that from the coming year 2024, the curriculum of all grades from 6 to 13 will be updated.
Also, the minister said that discussions are currently underway to start teaching artificial intelligence in the 8th grade.
Artificial Intelligence will be included at least as an optional subject in the curriculum.
The minister also said that the students will have the opportunity to study that subject later along with the Information Communication Technology subject.
It was also mentioned that the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers is to be obtained within two weeks for the policy on the digitization of education, which is the basis of all these educational transformation processes.
The Minister of Education mentioned this information while participating in the awarding of prizes and certificates of the Huawei Information Communication Technology (ICT) competition held in Colombo for the second time.
The future of the youth of this country rests with the advancement of technology.
Therefore, he says that the opportunities for students to enter the university should be systematically increased to open up space for that.
Science and technology courses should be increased for the higher education scheme.
In order to provide the opportunity, enough science and mathematics teachers should be provided to the schools in the rural areas.
The minister also said that the concept of school clusters will be based on good resource management.
The minister says that countries at the same level as us are currently 10 years ahead of us in the field of technology.
We cannot go back to the 20th century from the 3rd decade of the 21st century.
Mr. Susil Premajayantha further stated that we should achieve the goal of moving towards a mandatory education transformation process in the next five years.
