A call from our President to the Turkish President

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has made a phone call to the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressing his support for the Turkish people who are suffering from the disaster that occurred on the Turkey-Syria border where thousands of people lost their lives due to several strong earthquakes.

The President has expressed his regret to the Turkish President regarding the lives lost there, as well as the injured and victims.

Also, the President has also told the Turkish President that the Sri Lankan people have always come forward to support the Turkish people in this emergency situation that the Turkish people are facing.

More than 5,200 people have been killed and tens of thousands injured in Monday’s 7.8-magnitude earthquake along the Turkey-Syria border, officials said.

Thousands of buildings have collapsed in both countries.

After the first strong earthquake, more than 100 aftershocks hit the region.

According to reports from those countries, the cold weather conditions have further complicated the rescue operations, further endangering the survivors.

This is the strongest earthquake to hit this region in over 100 years.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter of the strongest quake was 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) east of Noordagi in Turkey’s Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers (14.9 miles).
