The Supreme Court has today issued an order against the then President Maithripala Sirisena, the then Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, the then Inspector General of Police Pujitha Jayasundara, and the head of the National Intelligence Service, Sisira Mendis, for not taking appropriate measures to prevent the Easter Sunday bombing in Sri Lanka.
That is to pay compensation to the fund of the victims of the attack from the personal money of the above four people.
The Supreme Court has decided that the fundamental rights of the victims have been violated.
Accordingly, the court has ordered former President Maithripala Sirisena to pay an amount of Rs. 100 million.
Former Inspector General of Police Pujitha Jayasundara and former National Intelligence Service Director Nilantha Jayawardena were ordered to pay Rs. 75 million each.
Also, the Supreme Court ordered former Defense Secretary Mr. Hemasiri Fernando to credit Rs. 50 million, and the head of the National Intelligence Service, Mr. Sisira Mendis, Rs. 10 million from his personal money to the fund.
The Supreme Court has also ordered that the government should credit an amount of Rs. 01 million to the victims’ compensation fund.
