Last night (10) the Election Commission has informed all the district secretaries to accept the deposit money for the local government election and to accept the nominations on the appointed date.
Election Commissioner General Mr. Saman Sri Rathnayake has given this notice. NewsWave has learned that with this notification, the public administration officials are surprised about the final decision regarding their decision.
The reason for this is that Mr. Neel Bandara Haputantri, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs and Local Government, has ordered all district secretaries yesterday to stop accepting candidate deposits for the local government elections unless they are notified again.
It was informed through a circular that the decision was taken according to a decision made in the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on the 9th. However, legal experts say that the decision of the Election Commission will come into force in an election.
However, the Election Commission is scheduled to hold a special discussion today to discuss this issue.
