Bus fares will not be reduced by at least one Rupee

Discussions with the transport authorities regarding the revision of bus fares today (9) in the morning ended without an agreement.

In this discussion, the transport authorities have asked the bus union representatives to reduce bus fares by at least one rupee.

Bus union representatives did not agree to that proposal.

Speaking to the media after the discussion, the bus associations stated that despite holding discussions, they cannot reduce the bus fares at the moment.

“The price of bus spare parts has increased by about 500%. The government is trying to lower bus fares under the guise of voting ahead without providing solutions. Therefore, it is not possible to talk about a reduction in bus fares at the moment by demeaning the private bus industry and the employee,” said Mr. Gemunu Wijeratne, President of the Sri Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association.

“If we want to reduce the fees, there are some basic steps that we need in that regard, and we will notify them in the future,” he said.
