“Will not send workers to disconnect electricity, even if the bill is not paid” – Trade Union Front of CEB

Mr. Ranjan Jayalal, convener of Sri Lanka Electricity Board United Trade Union Alliance, says that if steps are taken to increase the electricity tariffs from next month, the electricity workers will not go to cut off the electricity supply to the homes that fail to pay the electricity bill.

He mentions that the people’s reaction could be dangerous if the electricity gets disconnected despite the increase in electricity tariffs.

Mr. Jayalal further mentions that if that happens, there will be a problem regarding the safety of electrical workers.

Electricity and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera had made a statement yesterday that steps will be taken to increase electricity tariffs from January.

Mr. Ranjan Jayalal had mentioned this today (28) as a response.
