“Relief will be given to the people from next year” – President

President Ranil Wickramasinghe says that relief will be given to the people from next year.

The President also emphasized that the country’s economic problems will be resolved step by step, while he has not forgotten the difficulty people are facing today due to the increase in the prices of goods due to the increase in inflation.

The President mentioned that he has not been involved in politics since he became President.

He also recalled that he was committed to rehabilitate the country’s fallen economy by providing relief to the people who are suffering from the burden of life.

The President stated this while attending the progress review meeting of the food security district program held at the Nuwara Eliya City Hall this morning (22).

The President also pointed out that the people today have rejected not one group but the entire political system.

The President further mentioned that people’s trust can only be built by working together and rebuilding the country.

Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, who further commented,

“We hope to implement this food safety program that we started throughout the year 2023. Because with this global situation, food prices are rising. Then only developed countries can buy them. Under that background, we should make these activities successful.

I recently received a report on the upcoming relief from the World Food Programme. I hope we will get help from other countries. Also, the discussions with the International Monetary Fund and private creditors on debt restructuring programs have almost ended.

We hope to allocate money next year to provide the necessary support to prevent malnutrition in certain areas of this hill country. We have established a joint mechanism at the regional level for all these activities. Efforts are being made to involve non-governmental sectors for that. All these people should act without politics.

I never did politics after becoming president. Talking to everyone, representing everyone, I am trying to save the suffering people of this country from crisis.”
