A wide investigation into an organ transplant hospital – Organ transplants at that hospital have also been temporarily suspended

A seven-member investigation committee has been appointed by the Ministry of Health to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the reports published by some media about the alleged organ transplant in a private hospital.

Organ transplants at the hospital have also been temporarily suspended until a full investigation is conducted and its veracity is confirmed.

A team including five specialists has been appointed for this purpose under the leadership of a Deputy Director General of Health Services.

The Director General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, says that based on the media reports and information received regarding the related incidents, expert doctors, a legal officer, and an investigation officer with expertise in several fields have been appointed to conduct a comprehensive investigation regarding this incident.

The Director General of Health Services states that it will take about a month to conduct a comprehensive investigation.

Dr. Asela Gunawardena, who further commented on this,

“The committee’s role is to find out the truth and falsity of the facts spread through social media and the media and recommend what actions should be taken by the Ministry of Health if such activity has occurred. Apart from this, some media also reported about a testicle transplant. But the Ministry of Health has not given permission or opportunity for such transplants. And experts are of the opinion that such transplants have not been done clinically or experimentally. The appointed committee has been ordered to look into it. Organ transplants at the hospital have been temporarily suspended until a full investigation is conducted and the truth is confirmed.”

Mr. Dhammika Alahapperuma, Secretary of the Private Medical Services Regulatory Commission, Director of the Private Medical Services (Development) Division, who commented on this,

“An investigation is being conducted regarding the private medical center that was reported by the media in the past few days. Investigations are being carried out on the alleged malpractices in kidney transplants in that institution. In addition to this, the Private Medical Services Regulatory Commission has recommended the Western Province Health Services Director to conduct an investigation on that. Accordingly, two investigations are being conducted in this regard by the Ministry of Health and the Provincial Health Services Directorate.
