The suspect who doused a student with petrol and set him on fire was caught

A special police team led by Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Sanjeeva Dharmarathna arrested a criminal named Pathum, who terrorized Ampitiya, Kandy, with the help of Police, who demanded ransom from the father of a student who got high results in the GCE O/L Examination this year, and when he didn’t receive the ransom, poured petrol on the child’s body setting him on fire.

The child was set on fire on the last 26th by this criminal named Buwelle Gedrada Malik Nisansala alias Pathum.

This child named Grecian Neuman Berney Surphon, who is studying at St. Clement’s College in Ampitiya, faced GCE O/L examination this year and got 06 A passes, 02 B passes and 01 C pass.

Due to passing the exam so well, the sister of this child’s mother invited the child to her house on the 26th and gave him dinner. For that, the child has come riding a motorcycle with his father. Since the mother could not come, the sister has also prepared a food parcel for her.

The police say that while the child was going back home with his father on a motorcycle from that house, a criminal named Pathum, with a sword in his hand, jumped across the road and demanded money. Currently, the child is receiving treatment in the Kandy hospital in critical condition.

It has also been revealed that this criminal had broken the door of a house in Ampitiya about an hour before, put petrol in it, set fire to the house and took a ransom of Rs. 10,000.

This criminal tied a person to an electric pole and cut him with a sword on the 7th, and that person is currently undergoing treatment at the Kandy Hospital. A complaint has been made to the Kandy police in this regard, but the police have not taken much interest in arresting him. According to the information received from the villagers, a disciple of the criminal named Pathum, who participated in the crime, was attacked by several people in the village. It is said that the police recorded the complaint of the person with great interest and arrested the villagers and settled the complaint by giving the suspect a sum of Rs. 100,000.

Villagers say that if the police had arrested this person and enforced the law, such a crime would not have happened to an innocent child.

The villagers say that this criminal is spreading terror in the underworld in Ampitiya, and this situation has arisen due to the help he receives from the police.
