Thilanga Sumathipala has been appointed as the General Secretary of United People’s Freedom Alliance.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party Central Committee has decided this today.
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera previously held the position of Secretary General of the United People’s Freedom Alliance.
This appointment was made according to the proposal of the party president Mr. Maithripala Sirisena and a unanimous decision of the central committee at the party’s central committee meeting held at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party headquarters in Colombo today (21).
The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Mr. Maithripala Sirisena presented the appointment letter to Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena said that the United People’s Freedom Alliance gave this position to Thilanga Sumathipala by entrusting him with the responsibility and challenge of leading a victorious new journey with the unity of all parties and new energy.
Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala, who was elected to the Western Provincial Council from the United People’s Freedom Alliance in 2009, was elected to Parliament from Colombo District in 2010. In 2015, he was honoured with the position of Deputy Minister of Skill Development and Vocational Training, in 2015 he was appointed as the Deputy Speaker and in 2019 he served as the State Minister of Technology and Innovation.
