The government has taken steps to conduct nationwide raids to find people involved in human trafficking.
Also, the government has reached a decision today to punish people involved in human trafficking regardless of rank.
Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Mr. Manusha Nanayakkara and Minister of Public Security Mr. Tiran Alas took this decision in a special discussion held today (16) with senior officials of the Police Department, Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau and Immigration Department.
There will be a bi-weekly officer-level progress review on the progress of measures taken against people involved in human trafficking.
The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau has also received information about Sri Lankans involved in human trafficking both domestically and abroad.
Raids are expected to be carried out promptly and continuously based on that information.
Meanwhile, a program is being implemented to educate people about human trafficking.
