    A sergeant guarding Chandrika was kidnapped

    An investigation has been started regarding a suspicious complaint received by Wayangoda Police that a police sergeant who is a regular member of the security department of Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was kidnapped and locked in a house and robbed of Rs. 40,000.

    It is said that this abduction took place on the last 02. He complained to Wayangoda Police that he came to Veyangoda railway station on a motorcycle with his brother-in-law from his house in Veyangoda. He mentions that a group of people who came in a blue van near the Gamini Hall Junction asked him how to go towards Galle Road when he got off the train from Veyangoda and was walking.

    He answered and told the police that someone who got out of the van pulled him into the van and blindfolded him.

    He told the police that they took him to a house and even gave him food and drink. The sergeant told the Veyangoda police that he spent that night in that house and in the morning some person said, “You don’t know how to work properly. You have brought the wrong person.” That person also told the abductors to drop off the police officer back.

    He says that an amount of Rs. 40000 was taken from the money he had, blindfolded again, put in a van and abandoned, he said that he was left in the Beliaththa area. Since he did not have the money in hand, he made a phone call to his wife and asked to put Rs. 10,000 in the bank and took it out from ATM and returned home.

    Police say that the sergeant’s wife had filed a complaint that her husband had gone missing on the 2nd evening. Mentioning that the mobile phone of her husband was switched off, who had gone to duty that morning.

    A senior police official said that the complaint is being investigated by examining the security camera data.
