    A drug addict who ran into a retired teacher’s house and stole goods worth Rs. 10 million is caught

    Officers of Mt. Lavinia Division Criminal Investigation Bureau arrested a person yesterday who is strongly addicted to drugs, who entered a house in Makuluduwa in Piliyandala where the mother of an owner of an electrical and electronic goods store located in Piliyandala town is living and fled after stealing gold and silver items worth Rs. 10 million and a stock of foreign currency.

    Among the stolen money, the police found a 1000 Japanese yen note, fourteen 20,100 and 1000 Thai baht notes and 10 Indian 10,50,100 notes.

    Apart from this, the police have also recovered some of the gold items stolen by this suspect. Some of the gold items were also found while being pawned in banks and financial institutions.

    The police say that this suspect is a 31-year-old named Dilipa Chaturanga alias Lapa. Investigations have revealed that this suspect, who is a resident of Piliyandala Makuluduwa, is a thief by profession.

    The police say that this person, is plucking coconut for a living and sneaks into closed houses and steals property.

    Seeing that the retired teacher’s house was closed, he entered the house on the morning of September 27 by climbing a guava tree by the side of the wall. During interrogation, the thief said that he saw that a window of the house was open and entered the house through it.

    According to the police, he rented a room in a hotel in Nugegoda after selling the stolen foreign currency and gold items to banks and financial institutions and stayed there until he was arrested. Investigations have revealed that the daily rent of that hotel room is Rs. 6000 and he has consumed drugs worth Rs. 150,000 per day. In addition, investigations have revealed that he brought the prostitutes to that room and stayed together with those women.
