Selling liquor is permitted only to foreigners staying in safe and secure Hotels

The Sri Lanka Excise Department says that hotels are allowed to sell liquor to foreign tourists staying in safe and secure hotels throughout the country.

The Excise Department says that these permits do not apply to local tourists or visitors staying in the hotels and that liquor can only be sold to foreign tourists staying in those hotels.

The Excise Department says that it has instructed the Provincial Assistant Commissioners of Excise to supervise the tourist hotels in their area.

List of tourist hotels licensed for sale of liquor has been published on the website of the Excise Department, sltda.gov.lk

Accordingly, about 82 tourist hotels islandwide will be allowed to sell liquor to foreigners during this travel restriction period, the Excise Department said.
