The general secretary of the party, Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara, says that only five members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party can be said definitively that they will not join the current government and get ministerial posts or positions.
He mentions that there is a possibility of another member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party joining the government and getting a ministerial position.
General Secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party, parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara said that no matter who leaves the party, he believes that at least five people will remain in the party.
In the last general election, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party won 14 parliamentary seats. Among them are the senior vice-presidents of the party Mr. Nimal Siripalada Silva and Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, who hold the cabinet positions of the current government.
Also, Jagath Pushpakumara, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Suren Raghavan, Shantha Bandara, Chamara Sampath Dasanayake and Ranjeeth Siyambalapitiya who represented the Sri Lanka Freedom Party were appointed as state ministers last week.
Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is currently represented in Parliament only by the party chairman, former president Maithripala Sirisena, general secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, Shan Wijayalal de Silva, Dushmantha Mitrapala, Angajan Ramanathan and Duminda Dissanayake.
Among these, Mr. Duminda Dissanayake will be sworn in as a cabinet minister next week, according to political sources.
