The Central Bank of Sri Lanka says that inflation rose to 64.3% last month. It was 60.8% in July.
Mainly the monthly increase in the prices of food and non-food items led to this rise in annual point inflation.
Accordingly, food price inflation increased from 90.9% in July to 93.7% in August.
Inflation in non-food items rose to 50.2% in August from 46.5% in July.
Accordingly, within the food category, prices of fresh fish, fruits, bread, biscuits, eggs and poultry rose.
However, a decline in rice and dhal prices was reported during the month.
Meanwhile, in the non-food category in August 2022, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (electricity bills and maintenance/repairs), transport (school transport fares and air fares), textiles and footwear and miscellaneous goods and prices of items in the services sub-categories rose.
