The DIG Padmini Weerasuriya has today been elected as a female representative for the first time of the Governing Committee of the Sri Lanka Police Savings Association.
Also, Mrs. Renuka Jayasundara, the female Deputy Inspector General of Police, was appointed as the committee secretary of this association today.
The 95th General Assembly meeting of this association was held this morning (25) at the DIG office auditorium in Colombo under the chairmanship of IGP C. D. Wickramaratne with the participation of Senior DIG (Administration) Nandana Munasinghe and senior police officers.
Since the beginning of this association, the senior DIGs and DIGs have been appointed as the chairman of the governing committee.
This association was established by an ordinance in the year 1924 under the name of Sri Lanka Police Savings Association and at present, there are nearly 77000 police officers from the position of Inspector General of Police to the position of Police Constable as members.
Chief Inspector D. A. N. Priyadarshana, who is currently working as the administrative secretary of this association, is also the first police officer to hold the position of administrative secretary of this association.
The main objective of starting this association is to accustom the police officers to save money and use it frugally to lead a healthy life after retirement. This association is currently working to give money from the money saved by the police officers as a loan in one day at a low-interest rate, and under the special loan, an officer can get more than Rs. 1 million. Also, a property loan of around Rs. 1.5 million is also available at a low-interest rate. After accounts of the officers who are members here complete 15 years, interest will be added to the money.
