Legislation to allow registration of electric three-wheelers

The Cabinet has approved the amendment of the Motor Vehicles Act to provide for the registration of electric three-wheelers.

There have been requests from various parties to allow electric three-wheelers to be used in Sri Lanka to popularize electric-powered vehicles without the use of fossil fuels.

As there are no necessary provisions in the Motor Vehicles Act, the said Act should be amended.

Accordingly, the Minister of Transport and Highways, Mr. Bandula Gunawardena, has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Transport and Highways to take necessary steps to amend the Motor Vehicle Act by including the relevant provisions to enable the registration of electric three-wheelers.

Minister please do not spend states fund to unwanted projects available funds give to fuel imports.

    2. We are already bombarded with 3 wheel menace. These drivers are mostly under educated and has no regard to other motorists and traffic rules. A small four wheel vehicle will stop turning the vehicle in one place making it safer for others. Please manufacture a four wheel instead of three wheel.
