Floods are likely to increase in the next 24 hours

The Irrigation Department has warned that the current minor flood situation in several areas is likely to increase over the next 24 hours.

These areas are Agalawatta, Ingiriya, Palindanuwara, Bulathsinhala, Dodangoda, Millaniya, Madurawala and Kalutara Divisional Secretariats regions which are facing minor floods associated with Kalu Ganga.

The Irrigation Department urges the people living in these areas to be vigilant.

The Irrigation Department says that most places in the central and lower reaches of the Kalu Ganga Basin have received an average rainfall of over 175 mm so far.

According to the analysis of the water levels in the river water gauges maintained in the Kalu river basin by the Department of Rainfall and the Department of Irrigation, the prevailing minor flood situation in the low lying areas of the Kalu Ganga valley belonging to the above Divisional Secretariat Divisions is likely to increase further.

In this situation, the department instructs to take great care to protect lives and property.

The Irrigation Department says that this request has been made especially from the people living in those areas and the drivers of vehicles passing through those areas.

The Department requests the Disaster Management Division to take necessary action regarding this risk.
